About Labradoodles

Wally Conron of Kew, Australia began crossing Labradors and Standard Poodles in 1989. He wanted to create a dog more suitable for people with disabilities suffering with dog allergies who also needed the assistance of guide dogs. The result was the Labradoodle. Labradoodles come in two main sizes: standard (45-77 lbs & 21-24" shoulder height) and miniature (26-55 lbs. & 17-20" shoulder height.) They are extremely intelligent, sociable and people oriented.  They have a reputation for being easily trained, however, if left untrained they can become "naughty" due to boredom. The Labradoodle is non-aggressive and makes a remarkable pet for children. However, as with any pet, close supervision should always be implemented to ensure that a child does not inappropriately taunt or mistreat an animal thereby provoking aggressive behavior. By nature a pet or any animal will be prompted by instinct to act out when feeling threatened or scared. It is our responsibility as pet owners to make sure that our pets are always treated respectfully.

Labradoodles may have one of three hair types: hair/wavy, fleece or wool. Although Labradoodles have been successful with people suffering from asthma and allergies, there is no scientific proof that a Labradoodle is hypo-allergenic, you should not buy a Labradoodle on this presumption. A puppies' coat can change substantially from birth to adulthood; therefore often it is hard to tell exactly what coat your puppy will have.
